Goethals Bridge Replacement Wetland Mitigation

Goethals Bridge Replacement Wetland Mitigation

Staten Island, NY

The Goethals Bridge Replacement Wetland Mitigation project involved the restoration of 10.5 acres of low marsh, 2.5 acres of high marsh and 7.9 acres of scrub-shrub. Project consisted of installation of erosion and sediment control measures, clearing, grubbing, excavation, disposal, grading, fill placement, planting with native salt marsh vegetation and maintenance and monitoring upon completion of construction and related incidental work. Complexities included tidal creek crossings, tidal marsh restoration, unconsolidated substrates, highly organic soils, invasive plants and herbivory predator issue. The project was characterized by its aggressive completion schedule of slightly over 1 year during which JRCRUZ had moved close to 100,000 tons of material and planted over 300,000 native plants.
