Gansevoort Peninsula Phase II involved construction of a new waterfront public park along the Hudson River Park system, adjacent to Route 9A on Manhattan’s west side. The project consisted of the reconfiguration of Route 9A/West Side Highway entrance and exit ramps, the reconstruction of Bloomfield Street into a shared-use road, bikeway and esplanade, along with the reconstruction of the Route 9A bikeway and Gansevoort Street exit. A new adult fitness area, rain garden, and dog park with numerous water features, site furnishings and landscaping features were also created while providing FDNY’s Marine 1 facility, located within the site, with 24/7 access. Underground utilities were also relocated and maintained in conjunction with the installation of 3,300 LF of water mains and services, 2,500 LF of storm and sanitary sewers, and 1,800 LF of new electric underground facilities. The project also featured installation of 36,000 SF of granite and concrete pavers within the new park space, over 21,000 SF of new landscaped planter beds and 10,000 SF of asphalt paving within and along the new public park.
